Voiceless Victim

A survivor of clergy child sexual abuse speaks out for those who can't speak for themselves

Ratzo Shouldn’t Resign

I heartily disagree with calls for His Greediness, the Paedophile Protecting Pope, to resign his magnificent papal throne, leave his luxurious palaces and priceless treasures behind, and live out his days in ignominy.  Or in prison.

Not because he doesn’t deserve to be thrown out on his ear for his disgraceful response to the child sex abuse scandal.  He does.

But because, if he goes, the situation will only be worse for existing and future victims.

If Benny the Rat falls on his sword or is dishonourably pushed out by the devious eminences grises behind his tottering papacy, those same reactionary dead weights will claim that something has actually changed for the better.

When of course nothing could be further from the truth.

Replacing Ratzo with yet another ancient megalomaniac in a white dress and funny hat will achieve absolutely nothing.  Change absolutely nothing.

Except all those power hungry Cardinals will get excited at the prospect of beating off the competition for the best room in the Vatican.

No.  Make Pope Nazi stay and fix the mess.

He is already so deeply discredited on this subject that perhaps we can actually keep him on track to do the right thing, without the pretense that he is anything other than an obscenely wealthy old man who is far too eager to sacrifice thousands of innocent and vulnerable children to protect his own self important hide.

Plenty of experts have offered advice to Herr Ratzinger explaining exactly what needs to be done to fix this problem properly.  How to help victims, protect children in the future, bring the criminals and enablers to justice, and expose and then dismantle the machinery of cover-up.

He cannot claim lack of knowledge.  What he lacks is the will to do it.  The question that must be asked is: why has the Catholic Church and its monarch the Protector of Paedophiles obstinately refused to do the right thing?

Okay, that was merely a rhetorical question.

We know why.

Because he thinks he can get away it.

He thinks no-one will notice that all he offers are empty, hypocritical words and a bunch of excuses.  He thinks he can get away with distracting attention from his own scandal by pointing the finger at others.  He thinks he can avoid his own guilt by inventing conspiracies and blaming everyone except those who are actually guilty.  He thinks he can successfully claim to have made changes and addressed problems when he has actually strengthened the very forces and the very system which led to the problem in the first place.

You can understand why he might think that.  The Catholic Church has been getting away with rampant child sexual abuse and a range of other disgusting abuses of power for decades.  Centuries.  Millenia.

Obviously the Catholics cannot or will not see through his obsfucation.

So it is up to the rest of us who still possess functioning brains to make sure this time he does not get away with it.  That criminal acts can never again hide behind secrecy, infallibility, unearned respect, lack of accountability, diplomatic immunity and too much reverence.

The safety of our children depends upon it.

Then after we’ve made an example of the Pied Piper of Paedophiles, we’ll tackle all the other institutions that enable child sexual abuse.  Because the evil little rat is right about one thing:

He’s not the only one that covers up for these monsters.
